BOSASO, Somalia – Several Puntland soldiers were killed and others injured after a roadside bomb targeted their vehicle in Somalia’s Bari region on Sunday, according to preliminary reports.

Local sources say at least eight soldiers may have died, although Puntland authorities have not yet confirmed the casualty figures or released an official statement.

The attack occurred as Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni was meeting a senior U.S. AFRICOM delegation in Bosaso to discuss security cooperation and the ongoing fight against ISIS militants in the Cal Miskaad mountains.
