Mogadishu – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday chaired a meeting of the Federal Cabinet while Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama were away from Mogadishu.

The meeting focused on national security, the country’s ongoing electoral process, and efforts to strengthen democratic governance. Cabinet members also received briefings on the latest military operations carried out by the Somali National Armed Forces, with the government reporting significant progress in operations against Al-Shabaab.

During the session, the Cabinet approved the Business Registration and Licensing Bill as well as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye and Somalia’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

The Cabinet reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to intensifying efforts to improve security, promote stability, strengthen economic growth, and implement national development plans.

Ministers also called on Somali citizens to continue cooperating with government institutions to help build a peaceful, united, and prosperous Somalia.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government is continuing preparations to accelerate the country’s electoral process. On Thursday, elections for local councils and the regional parliament officially commenced in Galmudug under Somalia’s one-person, one-vote electoral system.
